Riviera and Loyola Beach are two small, unincorporated communities located along the Gulf of Mexico about 25 miles east of Kingsville. They are often grouped together because they sit along the same stretch of coastline and share a similarly quiet, off-the-beaten-path character. If you are looking for a busy boardwalk or beachfront nightlife, this is not the place. If you want a stretch of sand where you can spread out, cast a line, and hear nothing but the waves, it might be exactly what you need.

The beaches here are wide and uncrowded, even during peak summer weekends by most standards. The sand is soft, the water is warm, and the development is minimal. Both communities consist mostly of modest beach houses, a few small stores, and miles of open shoreline. Surf fishing is the main draw. Anglers come from across the region to fish the surf for redfish, speckled trout, and black drum. The lack of crowds means you can often find a prime fishing spot without competing for space.
One notable nearby attraction is the King Ranch, one of the largest and most historic ranches in the world, located just west of Kingsville. The King Ranch offers tours that explore its 825,000 acres of working cattle ranch, wildlife, and Texas history. For a day trip, you could easily combine a morning at the ranch with an afternoon on the beach, making for a uniquely South Texas experience. The area is also close to the Laguna Madre and Baffin Bay, two of the premier fishing destinations on the Texas coast.

Riviera and Loyola Beach are approximately 4 hours from Boerne via I-37 South to Corpus Christi, then west on Highway 77 to Kingsville, and east on Park Road 22 to the coast.
What to know before you go
- Best time to visit: Fall and spring offer the best weather. Summer is hot but the coastal breeze keeps things comfortable.
- Surf fishing: The beaches are excellent for surf fishing. Redfish, speckled trout, and flounder are the most common catches.
- King Ranch: Located near Kingsville, the historic ranch offers tours. Check the website for scheduling and availability.
- Amenities: Services are limited. Bring supplies from Kingsville before heading to the beach.
- Lodging: Beach house rentals are the most common accommodation. Book in advance during spring break and summer.
