Water is the defining feature of Hill Country living. The Edwards Aquifer feeds the springs, the springs feed the rivers, and the rivers define how people use the land. Whether you're swimming, kayaking, fishing, or just trying to understand the water table — this is where it starts.
Most of these destinations are within 45 minutes of Boerne. Some require reservations during peak season. We cover access, seasonal conditions, and the practical details you need to plan a visit.
Guadalupe River
The primary river system in the region. Tubing, kayaking, and fishing from Canyon Lake through New Braunfels and down to Seguin. Flow rates vary seasonally — know the conditions before you go.
Canyon Lake
An 8,230-acre U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reservoir on the Guadalupe River — boating, fishing, swimming, lakeside parks, and the Canyon Lake Gorge, all 38 miles from Boerne.

Runs through Blanco and into Wimberley. Swimming, wading, and tubing. The river is spring-fed but runs lower in drought years — Blanco State Park has reliable access and camping.
Medina River
Flows through Bandera County with clear water and shaded banks. Less crowded than the Guadalupe, with a more rural feel. Bandera's river parks are good options for families.
