Rolling Texas Hill Country landscape with live oaks and rocky terrain at golden hour
Day Trips

State Parks
& Nature.

The natural infrastructure that makes the Hill Country worth living in — hiking, swimming, camping, and geology.

Category

The Texas Hill Country is defined by its landscape — granite domes, limestone canyons, spring-fed rivers, and miles of trails through live oak savanna. These state parks and natural areas are some of the most significant outdoor destinations in the state, and most are within an hour's drive of Boerne.

Whether you're evaluating the region as a place to live or just looking for a well-planned Saturday, this category covers what you need to know — access points, seasonal timing, reservation requirements, and the geology that makes each park distinct.

Cibolo Center for Conservation

Six miles of trails, five ecosystems, and no admission fee. Just two miles from downtown Boerne, this 160-acre conservation preserve is one of the Hill Country's most accessible and rewarding outdoor destinations.

Enchanted Rock

A massive pink granite dome rising 425 feet above the surrounding terrain. Summit trails, rock climbing, and some of the best stargazing in Central Texas. Reservations required on weekends.

Guadalupe River SP

Spring-fed swimming along the Guadalupe River, with hiking trails through Hill Country terrain. One of the closer state parks to Boerne — a solid half-day option.

Pedernales Falls

Dramatic limestone waterfalls, river swimming, and camping. The geology here shows millions of years of sedimentary layering — worth seeing whether you're a rock person or not.
