Seadrift, Texas.

The oyster capital of the Texas coast, a small bayside town on San Antonio Bay with a working waterfront and an authentic, unhurried character. About 3 hours from Boerne.

Seadrift is a small bayside town on the eastern shore of San Antonio Bay, about 30 miles north of Port Aransas. It is known throughout Texas as the oyster capital of the coast, and that reputation is well earned. The town's economy has been built on commercial fishing and oyster harvesting for generations. Drive through Seadrift and you will see working boats, docks piled with oyster shells, and a community that still makes its living from the water. It is one of the most authentic working waterfront towns on the Texas coast.

Seadrift is on San Antonio Bay, about 30 miles southwest of Victoria. It's known as the oyster capital of the Texas coast and has a working waterfront character.

The bay is the center of activity here. San Antonio Bay offers excellent fishing for speckled trout, redfish, and black drum, and the oyster reefs in the bay produce some of the best oysters in Texas. The town has a marina, a few restaurants that serve fresh local seafood, and a small but devoted community of anglers and boaters. Seadrift is not a tourist destination in the conventional sense. There is no boardwalk, no water park, no resort hotel. What it offers is something increasingly rare: a genuine coastal community where the water is not just a backdrop but a livelihood.

For visitors, Seadrift is a good base for exploring the mid-coast area. The nearby Aransas National Wildlife Refuge is a short drive away and offers excellent birding and wildlife viewing, including the endangered whooping crane during winter months. Port Lavaca, Port O'Connor, and the Matagorda Island State Park are all within easy reach. For those who appreciate the real working coast of Texas, Seadrift is a destination worth seeking out. It is the kind of place where you can eat oysters harvested that morning and watch the boats come in at sunset.
